The Seminar: AI as a Partner, Not a Competitor to the Journalist
The manager of the factory, Prof. Simeon Stoyanov, conducted a specialized seminar for the young colleagues. The focus was placed on how artificial intelligence is transforming the media landscape and how future journalists can maximize the opportunities provided by AI for:
-
Fast and efficient processing of large volumes of data.
-
Fact-checking and combating disinformation.
-
Automating routine tasks to leave more time for high-quality investigative journalism.
Prof. Stoyanov paid special attention to the strategic question: Why must Europe actively develop its own data centers? Data independence, security, and the technological sovereignty of the Old Continent are key to the future of democratic media.
Meeting Discoverer
The students showed exceptionally high interest and literally showered Prof. Stoyanov with questions. Following the discussion, the young talents had the unique opportunity to visit and explore firsthand the Discoverer supercomputer—the pride of Bulgaria in the field of high-performance computing.
To wrap things up, multinational teams of young reporters (including representatives from Austria, Poland, and Finland) conducted exclusive interviews with Prof. Stoyanov, applying what they learned right then and there in the field.
“The visit to Sofia Tech Park showed future European journalists that Bulgaria is establishing itself as a hub for innovation and IT technologies. We believe that this knowledge will help them report on the digital world with even greater depth and understanding.”
