The team of the Bulgarian AI Factory BRAIN++, together with the Discoverer supercomputer, has supported the development of innovative models for wildfire forecasting and analysis under the European HiDALGO2 project.
The project combines high-performance computing with advanced scientific models to simulate wildfire behaviour under different terrain and weather conditions. The simulations track the spread of fire, changes in airflow, the movement of smoke, and the dispersal of airborne embers.
Models focusing on areas around settlements are particularly valuable, as they account for how buildings, vegetation, and terrain influence fire behaviour. This enables more accurate assessments of potential risks and supports timely decision-making by public authorities and emergency response services.
BRAIN++ experts provided key technical and scientific support for running the computational workloads, while Discoverer supplied the necessary high-performance computing infrastructure. This collaboration demonstrates how advanced technologies can help address real-world societal challenges and strengthen preparedness for natural disasters.
